7 of every 10 can not read and comprehend an English story. This is partly why only 3 of every 10 children who start primary one (P.1) sit for their Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). In a country where, 52% of our population is children below the age of 15, and mostly in primary school, this is a big challenge and an actual threat to national security and development.
Our program runs all year round starting with head teacher meetings and teacher trainings followed by a series of reading activities and the National DEAR Day. Children read on as they prepare for the Spelling Bees starting in their classrooms, at school level, district/regional and National level.
We believe that teachers are the most powerful people in the world, and we know that the success of our children is directly tagged to the effectiveness of the teachers. We have designed a teacher training program that focusses on equipping the teacher to be effective.
The Spelling Bee is an annual spelling competition for primary school children with the aim of improving literacy, unlocking the children’s imagination and developing 21st century skills such as Communication, Collaboration and Critical thinking.
enjuba fellows is an exclusive club and mentorship platform for Spelling Bee champions from all the years with a purpose of supporting them, mentoring them and supporting them with setting life and career goals so they can live their lives to their full potential and become successful.
